Church on Mission – Are You Ready? – Pastor Shelly Foley
Full Transcript…

It’s been a great weekend. God is moving. Like I mentioned earlier in the day, God is moving in our kids.

God is moving all across. I want to encourage you guys, and maybe he’ll get more of a chance, but you should ask Pastor Jonathan to share about his experience at Voice of God last weekend. I think we saw a little bit of it today. Yeah, yeah. He’s on fire and lit up. God is so faithful.

I’m just going to take a quick couple of minutes. I promise I won’t keep you super long. I know we’ve got kids to go pick up and everything, but God moved so mightily in South Carolina last weekend. Just a quick highlight. We saw a church get lit up. We went. There’s 50 people attending the class. Most of them are leadership in the church.

It’s called Real Life Church in Greer, South Carolina. And Pastor Jimmy Miller and his wife, Deborah, were here for our Voice of God in April. And it’s a cool, awesome story how God connected and then reconnected us to them a decade later. And just a strategic moment in their church. And he came to Voice of God in April and said, you need to come out and bring this.

So Pastor Bob and Cindy, Lean, and Jonathan and I were privileged to go out and do a Voice of God seminar for this church. And like I said, 50 people, most of their leaders were there, totally apprehensive. What is this thing? I don’t know anything about it. Pastor says I should go. I trust my pastor, so I’m going to go, but I don’t really know.

I’ve been to a lot of conferences. Okay, here we go. From that on Thursday night to people who literally that the first activation said, just so you know, I’m just here to watch. To the last activation, them 4 or 5 different times, coming up and prophesying over and giving the word of the Lord to different people in their house, to them just coming together in such a love for each other.

There’s nothing like seeing somebody through God’s eyes that changes how you think about them, the changes how you see them. That changes our relationship and the most consistent testimony that came from last weekend was the love and the unity of their church was something they’d never experienced before. And God is moving. Last Sunday, we got to be there and Pastor Jimmy installed a gatekeeper and we were working with her, and she’s awesome.

And then Pastor Jonathan was on fire just like he was today. And he was prophesying over all these people. My brother was prophesying over Pastor Jimmy, and it was so amazing and God was just moving. Then Jonathan called all the men up in the worship, all these different things happening. My dad did not preach. He just said, you know, God spoke.

You do not need to hear from me. And that spoke louder than anything else to those people because I’ve never, ever seen anybody just give up a pulpit like that. They were scheduled to preach. We would just sit there and wait, but that just that honor of each other and we were able to just my dad was so wonderful and he was able to just share and bring them into the presence of the Lord in a new way and encourage them in the waiting, in the presence of the Lord and the waiting on Holy Spirit to move, and guiding them in to experience something that they had never experienced.

And we just got to see a church get fired up, fired up. I got a text this morning from one of their, now their gatekeeper, Wendy, and she is so excited about what God is doing. And so thank you guys for sending us. I’m sure there’s going to be more testimonies about what’s happening this weekend in North Carolina.

God is moving. God is moving here. He’s moving in the world everywhere we go. If we will open our eyes and see it, if we will recognize it, if we want to be part of it, we can see he’s moving and he’s doing awesome things. Amen, Amen. Okay, so today I am here to close our series on Church on Mission.

We have spent the last ten weeks. This will be the 11th week teaching on evangelism and outreach and seeing beyond ourselves right? And being challenged by the Lord to do this, not just to be a theory and something. We come in on a Sunday and take notes with and get excited about. But actually something that we put feet to and we get out into our communities and into our families and into our jobs, and we actually share Jesus.

How’s it going? Yeah. How’s it going? Anybody? Anybody? Okay. All right. Is it been comfortable? No. That’s okay. Do you know that only about 16 to 20% of everybody are going to feel totally comfortable or natural in this? That means almost this entire room is not going to feel comfortable or feel like this is their gifting, or feel like it is something that they feel totally good about doing at all times.

It’s okay. God still calls us to do it. The greatest thing is he equips us to do things beyond what we think we’re capable of doing. And the best part about it is it doesn’t have to look the same for everybody. Yeah, I’m not going to share in the same way that Pastor David does or Gloria does or Jeremiah does or that Angelina does, because I come with a unique calling of my own, with something inside of me that God did for me.

And my assignment is not to be somebody else. My assignment is to be what God has called me to be. And in the overflow of working out what God is doing in the overflow and living in the overcoming life of Christ, I can share the very power and glory of God everywhere I am. It has to be me.

If I try to be you, it’s not going to work. People are going to be that’s fake because it’s not me. So I want to encourage us. Don’t try to be anybody else. Walk in the giftings that God has called you to, but be ready. Be ready, be ready to bring Jesus wherever we go. Church. Our mission is to bring Jesus.

Period. Church. Our mission is to bring Jesus to bring what Jesus did, what Jesus preached, who Jesus is, the kingdom of God, the transforming power, life-giving message, solution-giving peacemaker Jesus. That is who we are supposed to be. That is who we are supposed to bring. That is church on mission everywhere to the unsaved. To the saved, but maybe aren’t walking with God.

To those who are hungry for more of God, we are called to all of them. The harvest is ready. Are we ready?

Church on mission. That word mission means assignment. Sending or being sent for a duty or purpose. There is a purpose in this set of messages that we have been preaching for the last 11 weeks is that we are assigned by God to bring Jesus to the earth. We are assigned and sent on duty with a specific purpose to bring the life of Christ first manifesting in myself into every place that I walk.

This is the basics of evangelism. It looks different for everybody. For somebody, it’s going to be street ministry and God’s going to call them to the streets and they’re going to be called to bring life giving to people they don’t know. For some people, it’s going to be to their families. For some people, it’s going to be into their work.

For everybody, it should be into their families and into the people that they come in contact on a regular basis. We are all called to do this in some way, shape, or form. We cannot excuse it because I’m not a five-fold evangelist. That’s not my calling. Jesus didn’t tell the evangelists to go into all the world and preach the gospel.

He told the disciples, all of them, all of his followers, to go and to preach the gospel. It didn’t matter. It had to be who they were. It was the baseline. It was like first this, then all this other stuff. First and foremost, Jesus is first and foremost living Jesus everywhere we go.

So are you ready? Are you ready? That’s my question to us today. Are you ready? I’m gonna put that back up. Actually, I want to leave that up for a minute. We are called by God to reproduce. Reproduction is a process of sowing, of carrying, of repeating and of repeating. We don’t get to evangelize once. Say I did my part.

Because God’s called us to reproduce. That’s what this is about. Not just sharing Jesus, but making disciples, to building relationships, to walking with people. Matthew 28 has been our theme scripture for this series, and Jesus came to them and said, all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.

And surely I am with you always to the very end of the age. So in preparing for this message this week, and I don’t I don’t know if it’s because it’s the Olympics or camp has been on my mind. I just have this set of words ready, set, go.

Ready. Get set. Go. I don’t know about you. I like watching the Olympics. I know there’s been a lot of controversy this year, but the athletes didn’t do that. That’s just my opinion. It’s okay. But I was watching the track the other night, and I’m not a runner, so this is not like my sport. Okay. But ready, set go.

I’m this there’s a real thing with this. Right there is a place they have to be ready to go for the race. Then they have to actually set themselves in a specific positionIn order to run the race. And then when the gun goes off or the beat goes off or whatever the case may be, they actually have to move their feet.

And some of the most important steps of a race are the first few steps off the block. It sets the tone for the entire race. Whether or not they’re going to be ready, whether or not they have their set position and how they start is so imperative with how they will finish. They can’t go early. Or they’re disqualified.

If they start late, it’s going to be real hard to catch up. Sometimes. They can, but each part is so critical to the race in front of them and so quickly. I just felt like the Lord was asking us, are we ready? Are we willing?

Pastor Bob, I want to encourage you guys to go back and listen to. I’ve been listening to all these messages the last ten weeks of messages, and there are some powerful, powerful things in these messages, and I want to encourage you guys to go back to them. But pastor Bob talked to us about Jonah and his journey in disobeying Christ.

And then, getting swallowed by a whale and then finally saying, okay, Lord, you can have it. You can have your way. And then going and preaching the gospel, which is what he was running from in the first place. But are we willing or or do we flee from the presence of God like Jonah did? Because we don’t want what God has for us?

The reality of Jonah is really interesting because it didn’t just affect Jonah. He was on a boat that was about to go capsized because the storm was so big. His running from God’s call on his life and his unwillingness to do what the Lord called him to do caused chaos in not just his own life, but of all those around him.

Pastor Bob said, Sometimes God’s got to put us in the fish’s belly before we were actually ready to listen. Are we willing? Have we been equipped? We’ve been given so many practical tools over the last several weeks. Go back and listen to Jesus message to Pastor David’s messages because they give us real, tangible things of how we can do what God’s calling us to do, especially in this reality of evangelism and outreach.

The information is there, but you have to equip yourself. So to be ready, we have to be willing. We have to be equipped. And let me tell you, you’re not ever going to feel perfectly ready or perfectly equipped. Okay? So if you’re waiting for that feeling like, oh, I got this in the bag now I’m good, it’s never gonna happen.

But you have the life of Christ inside of you, and he’s given you everything that you need. You may not feel it yet. You may not totally understand it all yet. But as we begin to step out in faith, he fills those places. He fills those places of lack. He fills those places of emptiness, those places that we don’t feel qualified.

He qualifies. When we step out and follow him. Are we willing to set aside our fear, the fear of rejection, and the need for validation that will hinder our willingness to share our faith?

Sometimes we’re so afraid that we’re going to be rejected, so afraid that nobody’s going to listen, so afraid that we won’t have all the right words and all the right way, that we are unwilling to open our mouths. We are unwilling to step out.

But here’s the deal. When we truly get a revelation of the love of God and the mercy of God in our lives and what God has rescued us from and the hope that we have in him, it dispels every place of fear and will compel us to share. So sometimes we have to remind ourselves of the love and the mercy of God.

Pastor Jonathan gave an amazing message about fear. Go back and listen to it. I’m not going to recap it, but we are here to tell people that there is hope in life. Nothing else saves. It is only Christ. Because if we truly believe that and we truly have a revelation of that, then nobody can keep my mouth shut.

Because I want everybody to know, because I understand how good God is, and I understand how great he is. And I want everybody else to experience the freedom. I want everybody else to experience the peace that I have in my mind. I want everybody else to experience the marriage covenant relationships, the perfect covenant relationships that God has for us and the things that he has for us.

When we truly get a revelation of it and we remind And ourselves of the mercies of God and the hope inside of us and the love that God has for us, it will dispel every place of fear and will compel us forward. Do we understand that we’re bringing people into the Kingdom of God? This is how we get ready.

Are we ready? We are all called to usher and guide people from darkness into light. This mission involves more than just converting individuals to a religion. That is not what we’re talking about here. I’m not interested in a religion. I am interested in telling people and introducing them to the reigning, ruling Jesus Christ, the declaration of the Kingdom of God, and demonstration and power to lead them into the experience of freedom and deliverance.

That is what we are bringing people to. So are we ready? Do we know these things? Are we willing? Are we equipped? Are we willing to put fear aside to understand what we’re bringing people to? Will we ready ourselves? Secondly, are we set? Are we positioned? Are we postured correctly? It matters. John 4:35. Don’t say that there are four months.

And then comes the harvest. Behold, I say, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are ready already white with harvest. Are our heads up? Are our eyes looking up? Well, we begin to see those around us. Will we really, truly allow Holy Spirit to open our eyes to see people? How he sees them?

Will we allow Holy Spirit to open our eyes with the love of God? That’s what we experience in South Carolina. Is God opening their eyes to the love, one for another? Being willing to get out of ourselves and see others. Are we positioned, our eyes opened, our ears opened. Are we being spirit led? Pastor David said spirit led evangelism is about opening our hearts to God’s voice and following where he leads.

He said. Expect the supernatural because God delights in demonstrating his power through healing, through prophetic words and divine appointments. When we obediently share his gospel, are we set? Are we positioned? Our ears open, our eyes open, our heart open. And lastly, then go. Then go. John 4 we just read, it says there, don’t say that. There are four months.

And then comes the harvest. Open your eyes and look. The fields are already white with harvest. Now is the time, now is the time. It’s not for later. But if we refuse to be ready and we refuse to position ourselves, how can we expect to be laborers in the harvest? How can we expect to go when God says to go?

Because it is a now time and church, I want to take this as to take this seriously. I want us to take it seriously that God is working and there is so much harvest out there if we just will look, if we will open our eyes and look.

In Matthew 9 it tells us that the harvest is ready, but the laborers are few. And then it says, pray to the Lord of the harvest that he sends out laborers. Can we be sent? Can we be sent? That’s what these weeks have been about. Getting us ready, setting our feet. Can we be sent? Are we willing to be sent?

Are we willing, be willing to hear? Are we willing to hear the call that is going forth now to go? That is not later. It’s now going to your workplaces. Go into your schools, go into your family. You know God is the one that draws. But he partners with man and we have a part to play. We sow seeds, we water seeds, we we reap harvest.

God partners with man in everything that he does. So yes, God draws God’s drawing that person. But who here on the earth is pulling him in? God’s tugging on somebody’s heart, and that heart is waiting for someone to say, I see you and God sees you, and God sees all the things that you’re going through. And God wants to speak to you about the things that you’re going through and let you know that he’s here with you and he wants to bring you to a people like you that can help you grow into the things of the Lord and help you uncover the places that God has for you.

He partners with men. God draws. God builds his church, but he partners with men. Matthew 16 says, on this rock I will build my church. We say this scripture a lot. I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. Next verse, same paragraph that Jesus is speaking says, and I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven.

And whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. He is partnering with man. He says, I will build my church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against you, my church. And I am giving you all the authority and all power to tread on serpents.

And I’m giving you all the authority and all power to bind and to bind on heaven, and to loose on heaven, and to loose on earth. God partners with man. He needs us to fulfill his plan and his purpose. We get to do this together. Our job is not to fill the church with people. Our job is to fill the field.

Our job is to bring the fullness of Christ to everyone around us. That is our job to bring the fullness of Christ to be the expression of Christ. You know that Jesus brought solutions to problems. Jesus brought healing to sickness. Jesus brought deliverance to torment. Jesus brought truth to confusion, peace to the storms, light into darkness. He brought the kingdom everywhere.

He went. And if we are truly bringing these things to the people around us, then our churches will be filled out.

Because what people need is an encounter with the power of God. They need an encounter with the transforming power of Christ. We are to introduce them to Jesus. The one who loves them, the one who heals them, and the one who transforms them.

We are to bring them into discipleship. Not just salvation, but discipleship. To build relationships, to teach them, to walk with them, to bring them into the body of Christ. You see, we have been given all authority to do this, said that back in Matthew 28 And Jesus came to them in the new living. And the Passion Translation says, all the authority since Matthew 28, all the authority of the universe has been given to me.

Now go in my authority. Go in my authority and make disciples of all nations.

The authority of Christ is what enables us to do this. It’s not our own strength. God is challenging us, not just to get ready, but to seek after those who God is drawing. It goes beyond getting ready. We have to be ready. We have to be positioned, and we have to be ready to take those steps. When he calls us to.

He’s challenging us to seek after those he’s drawing, to seek after those he’s trying. I want to end with this acts, for this is a prayer the disciples prayed after they faced the religious of the day and were forbidden to speak about Jesus. They were threatened, their lives were threatened, their families were threatened because the religious leaders of the day were very threatened by the message that they were preaching.

And so in acts four, this is the prayer. It says, O Lord, hear their threats, and give us your servants great boldness in preaching your word. Stretch out your hand with healing power. May miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus. Let that be our prayer, because after that prayer said, the meeting place shook.

And they were filled with the Holy Spirit. And they preached the word with boldness. If this will be our prayer, that regardless of the things that come against me to stop me.

Give me power to do miraculous things that signs and wonders would follow.

In Mark’s account of the Great Commission reminds us this that our job is to proclaim the gospel, and that he will confirm the message with signs and wonders. We don’t have to have all the answers. We just have to step out in faith and be doing what he’s called us to do. Are we ready? Yes. Are we positioned and said yes?

Well, we believe. Will we be believers? The word believe does not mean one time salvation. That means entrusting your life with in Mark one says, and these signs will follow those that believe. That means to fully entrust. Who we believe. Will we see the room shake with the presence of God? That we can go out in the overflow, the overflow of Holy Spirit and bring the power of God wherever we go?

Are you ready? Amen.

All right. Put your hand on the person next to you. Father, I just ask that this person sitting next to me will go and do the work that you’re calling us to help us in your name, we pray. And all God’s people say, yeah, you just don’t forget your kids, all right? You actually have to pick them up.

Pastor Shelly Foley shared an inspiring message about the importance of being ready and willing to participate in God’s mission. Drawing from her experiences and biblical teachings, she emphasized the urgent need for spirit-led evangelism and the unique calling each believer has in sharing the gospel.

Pastor Shelly began by recounting her personal experiences of witnessing God move mightily in various places. From conferences to church gatherings, she saw the transformative power of the Holy Spirit at work, touching lives and bringing people closer to Christ. These encounters underscored the dynamic nature of God’s movement and the role believers play in partnering with Him.

A central theme of Pastor Shelly’s sermon was the urgency of the harvest. She referenced John 4:35, where Jesus tells His disciples, “Don’t say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest.’ Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest.” Pastor Shelly reminded the congregation that the time to act is now. The fields are ready, and God is calling His people to step out and reap the harvest.

One of the critical barriers to evangelism that Pastor Shelly addressed is the fear of rejection and the need for validation. She acknowledged that these fears can hold believers back from sharing their faith. However, she encouraged the congregation to overcome these obstacles by relying on God’s strength and the authority given to them by Christ. “We have been given all authority,” she said, referencing Matthew 28:18-20, where Jesus commissions His disciples to go and make disciples of all nations.

Pastor Shelly also spoke about the unique calling each believer has. She urged everyone to embrace their gifts and use them to bring Jesus to others. Whether through acts of kindness, sharing personal testimonies, or offering prayers, every action can contribute to the mission of spreading the gospel. “God partners with man,” she emphasized, “He draws people to Himself, but He uses us to reach out and bring them in.”

In discussing spirit-led evangelism, Pastor Shelly highlighted the importance of being attuned to God’s voice and following His guidance. This involves opening our hearts, eyes, and ears to what the Holy Spirit is saying and leading us to do. She encouraged the congregation to expect the supernatural, as God delights in demonstrating His power through healing, prophetic words, and divine appointments.

The sermon concluded with a call to action. Pastor Shelly challenged the church to take seriously the call to evangelism. She urged them to be ready, positioned, and willing to go wherever God leads. This readiness involves not only preparing ourselves spiritually but also being proactive in seeking opportunities to share the gospel in our workplaces, schools, families, and communities.

In a heartfelt prayer, Pastor Shelly asked God to empower the congregation with boldness and fill them with the Holy Spirit. She prayed for miraculous signs and wonders to accompany their efforts, reinforcing the message of the gospel with tangible demonstrations of God’s power.

Pastor Shelly’s sermon serves as a compelling reminder of the urgency and importance of evangelism. It calls believers to overcome their fears, embrace their unique callings, and be ready to partner with God in the harvest. As we step out in faith, guided by the Holy Spirit, we can expect to see lives transformed and the kingdom of God expanded.

In reflecting on this message, let us be inspired to take action, knowing that we are equipped and empowered by Christ to make a difference. The harvest is ready, and the call is clear: now is the time to go forth and share the love and power of Jesus with the world.
