thank you Shai it’s beautiful all right i’m just not going to cry okay thank you for sharing your journey because I know it ministers to a lot of us um with that it is my honor today to um introduce our speaker so our speaker today is someone who has been in this house for many years and has served and taught and led and been part of many things she’s a fantastic teacher she’s a beautiful pianist and um she has been someone who has made a difference in my

00:31:45 life for a really long time and so as part of our continuing series about the overcoming church she’s going to launch our next three weeks we’re going to be talking the overcoming church so with that will you please help me welcome Miss Kathy Date [Applause] i am overwhelmed right now at how the Lord orchestrates things um that song that Shiloh just sang just sets the stage for my message today so thank you wherever you are where are you hiding shai thank you so much for blessing us with the gifts that God has given you um

00:32:50 being a somewhat musical person i really appreciate how the Lord has gifted you to be able to put into music a story and I could hear it in the changes in your music during that song so I just want to thank you and I want to thank the Lord and I also my words are getting blurry here just because I’m crying at the goodness of the Lord so I’m going to pray heavenly Father I come to you humbly today and I just present myself to you as your maid servant that you would just use me to bring forth your word your

00:33:41 message to this body today this amazing message that you’ve brought Father God to us about the value of praise and worship and the changes that it can bring so I pray that you open our ears open our hearts and I just pray that you that that you would anoint me to be able to bring forth your words today and bless each one here as they hear this message in Jesus name amen well I’m happy to tell you the Lord has a message of encouragement for us today you might be happy to hear so we’ve had a few lately that have

00:34:28 been you know little little challenging yes um okay so we’re in a series of messages about the overcoming church oh I forgot i want to start my timer so I know how long I’ve spoken i can get going a little crazy sometimes we’re in a series of messages about the overcoming church so I have a question for you what are we overcoming i actually want answers sin death hell sin trials right self okay yes good answers class okay yes all those things but the one I want to concentrate on today is death remember that man Adam was made

00:35:27 perfect in the image of God he walked and talked with God literally and physically and he had eternal life that was God’s design then what happened sin which brought about death so if we want to go back to that perfect relationship with God what do we have to overcome sin and death death how many of you here have been personally touched by the death of someone that you love don’t you want to see an end to that okay that’s what we’re going to talk about today i’ve been asked to kick off a subseries on praise and worship okay

00:36:23 remember this is still within the message of the overcoming church and I would propose today that praise and worship bring forth life that is my proposition today therefore dealing a blow to death have you ever really thought about it that way about worship and praise actually bringing forth life all right let’s look at some scriptures acts 15:23-33 and they Paul and Silas were severely beaten and then they were thrown into prison the jailer was ordered to make sure they didn’t escape so the jailer

00:37:13 put them into the inner dungeon and clamped their feet in the stocks around midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God and the other prisoners were listening suddenly there was a massive earthquake and the prison was shaken to its foundations all the doors immediately flew open and the chains of every prisoner fell off the jailer woke up to see the prison doors wide open he assumed the prisoners had escaped so he drew his sword to kill himself but Paul shouted to him “Stop don’t kill yourself we are all here.”

00:37:55 The jailer called for lights and ran to the dungeon and fell down trembling before God and Silas then he brought them out and asked “Sers what must I do to be saved?” They replied “Believe in the Lord believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved along with everyone in your household.” And they shared the word of the Lord with him and all who lived in his household even at that hour of the night the jailer cared for them and washed their wounds then he and everyone in his household were immediately

00:38:35 baptized from praise and worship life came forth amen on several different levels okay paul and Silas were rescued from prison most certainly most people died in that prison the guard was saved from killing himself and his household all received salvation and baptism they received a new spirit and a new soul they received new life isn’t that amazing how much life came forth from that one story okay so let’s look at another example mary and Martha had a brother named Lazarus who died so in John 11:33 we see when Jesus saw her weeping

00:39:28 and saw the other people wailing with her a deep anger welled up within him and he was deeply troubled what do you suppose he was angry about yeah I would propose that he was angry about death that that should he knew that shouldn’t be happening that’s not God’s design he was angry about death as we should be amen so in John 11:40 to 44 Jesus responded “Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you believe?” So they rolled the stone aside then Jesus looked up to heaven and said “Father thank you

00:40:16 for hearing me you always hear me but I said it out loud for the sake of all these people standing here so that they will believe you sent me then Jesus shouted “Lazarus come out.” And the dead man came out his hands and feet bound in grave cloths his face wrapped in a headcloth and Jesus told him “Unwrap him and let him go.” Okay so what happened here so Jesus thanked God isn’t that praise and what happened right after that death was turned to life which is exactly what Shiloha’s song was about death being

00:40:59 turned to life lazarus lived praise and worship bring forth life do you hear me praise and worship bring forth life all right so let’s talk about praise and worship for a minute well maybe a few minutes okay uh Psalm 34 1-4 i will bless the Lord at all times his praise shall continually be in my mouth my soul shall make her boast in the Lord the humble shall hear thereof and be glad oh magnify the Lord with me and let us exalt his name together i sought the Lord and he heard me and delivered me from all my fears

00:41:43 luke 1:46 and 47 and Mary said “My soul doth magnify the Lord and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my savior.” Now notice that particular scripture separates soul and spirit we are made in the image of God he is three in one Father Son and Holy Ghost holy Spirit and so are we three in one body soul and spirit our own spirit not the Holy Spirit we are born with a dead spirit because of sin but we receive a new spirit alive to God when we are saved now that’s another whole entire teaching about salvation then at

00:42:27 water baptism we receive a new heart a new mind all the things that make up the essence of who we are as human beings our soul also another whole teaching um it is that I’m sorry it is this part of us the soul that can choose to magnify the Lord and when we do that our spirit rejoices amen okay so I want to talk about the word magnify normally we magnify things that are small using a microscope so when I was a young Christian and I would hear the words magnify I would think what the heck does that mean god

00:43:13 is big why would I need to magnify him i mean I’m have I’m being honest with you that word perplexed me and I heard it over and over magnify the Lord exalt him i’m like why do we need to do that okay a few years ago small printed words starting getting harder for me to read there was absolutely nothing wrong with the words printed on the paper okay they seemed to be fuzzy but there was nothing wrong with them the problem was my view amen it was my eyes that were not seeing clearly so I had to start using glasses to

00:44:02 magnify the words the print did not become bigger when I used a magnifying object it was my view of the print that changed so when we magnify something that thing does not become bigger however the details of what we are magnifying become clearer and we can see things about the object that we never knew existed we have we sing a song that’s called Holy and there’s a line in there it’s talking about the angels in heaven worshiping God and it says every time they circle around they see a new thing these are angels in heaven that

00:44:51 are circling the Lord worshiping him and praising him even they see a new thing about God every time they circle around i remember looking at a drop of water under microscope in science class can we put that up please oh there it is awesome okay this is sea water just want to let you know this is not drinking your drinking water hopefully your drinking water doesn’t quite look like this okay but I even a drop of sea water i had no idea that all those things were swimming in it okay magnifying that drop of water did

00:45:35 not change what was there but it enabled me to be able to see what was there all along so when we magnify the Lord we become the lens to help ourselves and to help others see God’s character and goodness his grace and mercy and so many other details about the Lord and you know what just like that song every time they circle around they see a new thing that never ends in our walk when we magnify the Lord to ourselves and to others we and so we can become the tool for others we do it for ourselves but we can also

00:46:24 become a tool for others to become the magnifying lens for another to see him more clearly now many people see God too small or too far away can we switch to the next slide okay a God that’s not able or maybe we think he’s not even willing to deal with our difficulties not able to save our families not able to do something in the community far away but to men and women who have great faith in God God is enormous we go to the next slide in numbers 13 and 14 several men were spying on the promised land to see what

00:47:18 was there okay they saw the enemy there as giants and themselves as grasshoppers next slide please joshua and Caleb saw God bigger than the enemy can we go to the next slide they saw God really big the giants in the land were the grasshoppers to Joshua and Caleb’s God what was the difference between Caleb Joshua and the other spies their view of God god was bigger to them than anything or anyone can we go to the next slide numbers 14:24 but my servant Caleb because he has a different spirit in him and has followed me fully I will

00:48:20 bring into the land where he went and his descendants shall inherit it and you know what this is under our control it is a choice that we have and it’s based on believing the word of God amen the different spirit is one who sees the greatness of God and the smallalness of man someone whose eyes and mind magnify the Lord in 1st Samuel 17 when David went to the battlefield the um the army was afraid and they saw an enormous massive giant named Goliath i’m sure we’re all familiar with this story i like to bring a little levity in

00:49:13 here um he was taunting them and coming after them and he would surely succeed in the eyes of the Israelites they were afraid they were scared however David saw a big God and a small man a small man with a big mouth when things are coming against you how do you see God can you see what’s really there like the little things swimming in the drop of water or the gigantic star out there the sun blazing and burning so let’s look at second Kings 6:14-18 so one night the king of Aram sent a great army with many chariots and

00:50:06 horses to surround the city when the servant of the man of God got up early the next morning and went outside there were troops horses and chariots everywhere “oh sir what will we do now?” the young man cried to Elisha “don’t be afraid,” Elisha said “for there are more on our side than on theirs.” Then Elisha prayed “Oh Lord open his eyes and let him see.” And the Lord opened the young man’s eyes and when he looked up he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire

00:50:50 so when negative circumstances surround us they were surrounded we need to magnify the Lord magnify God when we see God bigger we will see people difficulties and even Satan smaller how do we do this we have to study the scriptures to get the right image of who God is and who we are this is why true worshippers scour the scriptures daily if we’re in a situation where we can’t see how big God is he wants us to look deeper and get focused whatever it takes to get focused if we need to tell ourselves to magnify

00:51:47 the Lord we need to do that we can’t make God any greater or higher or bigger than he is but if our focus is off he gets obscured amen do people say this about us can we have the next slide okay so I’m asking do pe do you think people say this about us their God is mighty and he is displayed in their life and in their church there’s a ceil moment for those of you that are new to words like seaw that means pause and think about this for a minute do people say that about us their God is mighty he is displayed

00:52:44 in their life and in their church so in Job chapters 38-41 Job had a conversation with God about life when God seemed small and far away now if you’ve recently read Job you might remember that those chapters are pretty brutal they’re pretty brutal god wants to know who it was that set the stars in place job who told the sea to go thus far and no more do you think you know so much about me answer me that remember those chapters he’s like “Speak answer me if you’re brave enough.” And Job was pretty

00:53:28 silent what was God doing with Job he was saying “Keep your focus on me magnify me in your vision take your eyes off your friends off your family off your situation look at me through spiritual glasses and keep focused on me despite what’s happening that is hard to do sometimes isn’t it it’s hard for me sometimes so what do we see when we look at God one who is mighty one ready to deliver us from every situation we may find ourselves in someone who created all things and holds all things in the

00:54:16 world or do we see one who is small and cannot possibly deal with my circumstance do we sometimes see a God who actually isn’t really that interested in me as a person they’re interested in a lot of other people everybody around me oh yeah I have faith for them i have faith for them i have faith for you i have faith for you but sometimes when it comes to ourselves aren’t we sorely lacking are we magnifying the Lord to ourselves to others is our focus correct is it a lastditch effort to turn to God and I really want to challenge all

00:55:05 of us including me on this i hear so often Christians say “Well all I can do is pray.” And I you know I I’ve gotten to the point where it makes me really mad because no that is not all we can do you know what prayer is g said this to me “Prayer is our nuclear weapon and we should be going to that first.” And praise and worship are our nuclear weapon nothing can stand against that and that should be our first resort not our “Well all I can do is this.” Amen are you with me on this we have nuclear

00:55:50 weapons in our hand and the Lord wants us to use them amen all right all right oh I just I just licked the mic oh my gosh and that’s on tape oh wait wait i’m dating myself now tape I said okay all right lord help me all right so is our focus is our focus correct okay when we have things come against us or come against our family or come against our church or disasters happening in our community okay if not we need to read the word to refocus we need to pray to refocus and we need to praise and worship to

00:56:39 refocus all right I’m going to move on we talked about um magnifying glasses microscopes there’s another kind of magnifying there’s the So there’s the magnifying the microscope magnifying and there’s telescopes that also magnify the first one makes a small thing look bigger or reveals things that are there that we can’t see with the naked eye okay but the telescope what that does is it makes a big thing look as big as it really is can we bring up the H i like that one okay psalm 69:30-32 i will praise the name of the

00:57:22 go the name of God with a song and will magnify him with what with thanksgiving this shall also please the Lord better than an ox or bulock that hath horns and hooves the humble shall see this and be glad at um a website called desiringgod.org John Piper writes this when David says “I will magnify God with thanksgiving,” he does not mean “I will make a small God look bigger than he is,” he means “I will make a big God look as big as he really is.” Christians are not called to be conmen who magnify their product out of

00:58:07 all proportion to reality amen when they know that the competitor’s product is really far superior you know okay I mean yeah I guess we could pray but you should probably go get some professional help um there is nothing and nobody superior to God nothing nobody and so the calling of those who love God is to make his greatness begin to look as great as it really is the whole duty of the Christian can be summed up in this feel think and act in a way that will make God look as great as he really is

00:58:52 be a telescope for the world of the infinite starry wealth of God be that romans 1:20 and 21 ever since the creation of the world his invisible nature namely his eternal power and deity has been clearly perceived in the things that have been made so men are without excuse for although they knew God they did not glorify him as God or give him thanks now I happen to be one of those people that I really perceive God in creation i am a backpacker i love to backpack and um a lot of the reason it is because I

00:59:39 am overwhelmed at God when I’m out and I see such a beautiful world that he created for us to live in and there are times when I just stop on the trail and I just want to just like start singing how great is our God and I’ve actually done that on the trail Peggy haven’t I sung that out there yep we’ve been out there we’ve prayed over things that we can see yeah so that Romans 1:20 and 21 is really meaningful to me to me but because of the sin spirit in the world and the forgetfulness of our hearts many of

01:00:22 God’s greatest attributes and awesome deeds go by us without even noticing matthew 13:13 Seeing we do not see and hearing we do not hear even when we do see and hear sometimes it’s for a brief glorious moment and then how quickly we forget amen john Piper goes on to say “Haven’t we all had experiences in which we feel the goodness and faithfulness of God so intensely that we leap in the air and we shout and we hug our kids and we hug everybody around us and we say “Oh God how could I ever doubt you after

01:01:10 this?” Anybody been there amen how could I ever again despair of your help and then some short time later you find yourself doing just that discouraged feeling no confidence in the goodness and greatness of God why because we are so prone to forget the evidence of God’s goodness which we ourselves have experienced not to mention the evidence in scripture and that’s why David preaches to himself in Psalm 103 1 and2 bless the Lord oh my soul and all that is within me bless his holy name bless the Lord oh

01:01:57 my soul and forget not all his benefits soul do not forget what God has done instead soul do what Asaf does in Psalm 77:11 i will call to my mind the deeds of the Lord yes I will remember thy wonders of old i will meditate on all thy work and muse on thy mighty deeds thy way oh God is holy what God is great like our God what God is great like our God we need to do this for ourselves and we need to do it for others the devil magnifies our problems he is so good at that he makes them so big in front of

01:03:01 our faces that we can’t see anything else okay so I’m going to have everybody do a little something now i want you to hold your hand out in front of you at arms length okay and then look around you can still see almost everything in the room right can see it pretty well okay now magnify your hand to right in front of your face what you see is completely different isn’t it it obscures your vision you can put your hands down except I should have taken a picture first all right so I’m going to get

01:03:43 really real here have you ever had an issue with someone in the church it might be a friend or maybe an ex-friend it might even be dare I say it leadership that has so upset you that you have a hard time coming to church because you might see them or that you can’t hang around afterwards can’t stay for fellowship because you know they’re going to be in the room talk about magnification they are one out of hundreds of other people there but that’s the only people that’s the only person that we see am I the

01:04:35 only one that has experienced this i I have I’ve I’ve experienced it and it is amazing how you just your eyes just go right to that person when there’s all these other people that your eyes could be focused on okay it distorts everything in our life when these things become so magnified in our hearts in our minds in our eyes it distorts everything we are called to be magnifiers people who make the greatness of God as great as it really is this is what it means for a Christian to magnify God but you can’t magnify what you haven’t

01:05:30 seen or what you quickly forget therefore our first task is to see and to remember the greatness and goodness of God so we pray to God open the eyes of my heart and we preach to our souls soul forget not all his benefits we especially have to do this when we’re under attack because that’s when Satan comes right in front of you when you are under attack what sort of response will magnify him best what should we do in order to cause God to appear as great as he really is i would propose Psalm 69:30

01:06:20 i will magnify God with thanksgiving when we give thanks to him from our hearts God is magnified gratitude glorifies God and this is what worship is to me there have been times in my life when I do not feel like worshiping things are not good i’m really discouraged i don’t even think God cares about me anymore but when I take even just a minute to think about the blessings in my life they are many even in the face of things that are maybe horrible you know maybe one of my kids is really struggling with something

01:07:15 but if I just take a minute and just turn my mind to the blessings in my life you know within 15 seconds I cannot help but praise the Lord i can’t help but lift my hands i can’t help but want to put on a worship song that really blesses my heart and really says what I want to say to the Lord it It’s so fast for me i don’t know i I’m I’ve experienced so many moments like that early in the morning in the dark i like to get up when it’s dark and just light one little candle it’s my little secret place with God and I just

01:07:59 and sometimes I struggle and I have to stop and when I just start thinking about the blessings of my family my grandchildren the people at this church that are my family the road that God took me on to bring me here and to bring the truth of his word to my heart that I had never really heard before not in the way that I heard it when I came here and it wasn’t an easy thing for me coming to Word of Life those of you that remember I kind of came kicking and screaming thank God I had a godly husband that was

01:08:38 looking for the Lord and he dragged me along with him and I’m so thankful okay let’s go on to some more scriptures psalm 34:3 oh magnify the Lord with me and let us exalt his name together i will praise the name of God with a song i will magnify him with thanksgiving bless the Lord oh my soul and all that is in me bless his holy name let us exalt his name together bless the Lord and forget not all his benefits so we’re going to do that today in a little bit when we share our magnified view of God with each other

01:09:23 that’s how we exhort edify and comfort each other the definition of prophecy that happens when we magnify him remember praise and worship brings forth life it actually deals hard blows to death this is really things that really happen this is what these many weeks of overcoming churches me overcoming church messages have been about overcoming death hell and sin actually I like to go in the opposite direction sin hell and death death is our final enemy amen and that’s what all these messages have been about overcoming

01:10:20 Uh let me see okay we’ll go on here um now all of these things I’ve been talking about they’re really not that hard when things are going well okay but they’re really important um especially in light of some recent prophecies that we’ve received about hard times to come and we can’t be we can’t just turn a blind eye to some of these things that the Lord has warned us about so I’d like to read Habach 3:17-18 though the fig tree should not blossom nor fruit beyond the vines the produce of the olive fail and the fields

01:11:11 yield no flood no I’m sorry the fields yield no food the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls yet I will I will I will rejoice in the Lord i will take joy in the God of my salvation now do you actually know what’s happening in with Habach where this scripture appears okay the prophet Habach speaks to God about all the evil he sees in his nation and God’s answer get this God’s answer is that he is going to send the Babylonians to punish Judah’s sins and there will be a lot of collateral

01:12:06 damage that was God’s answer to Habach when he said ‘Lord all this horrible stuff’s happening in my country okay I’m going to send the Babylonians to punish Judah and there’s going to be a lot of collateral damage this is kind of like God telling us he’s going to send terrorists to punish America in the process wiping out millions of Christians i’m just trying to be real here that’s what Habach was hearing God say when he when he said this okay habach knows that terror is coming yet he ultimately makes the

01:12:46 choice even though all this terrible stuff is about to happen yet I will rejoice in the Lord i will be joyful in the God of my salvation wow the overcoming church now remember at the beginning of this message I talked about Oh I’m just remembering I said I was bringing a really encouraging word and it is just wait don’t leave me yet um I was talking about how praise and worship bring forth life remember Habach had heard that death was coming we have heard that death is coming worship and praise bring forth

01:13:45 life let’s look at Hannah hannah she was barren at a time in history when women were valued by how many children they had and she weeps at the temple and prays to the Lord for a son and then we read in 1st Samuel 1:19 do I have this scripture no okay we read this is what you would read if it was up there they rose early in the morning and worshiped before the Lord and God answered her prayer after she worshiped him there is power in worship that can alter the circumstances in your life there is

01:14:35 power in worship that can alter the circumstances in your life life came forth after worship life comes forth god doesn’t tell us to ignore our grief and worship him god tells us to worship him in the midst of grief but we can grieve as those who have a living hope we refuse we refuse to let Satan magnify anything in our lives we refuse to let Satan magnify anything in our lives instead we will magnify the Lord we will magnify the Lord because he is great we have cause for celebration and in his death and resurrection Jesus

01:15:36 Christ finished it he finished all the works of the devil that cause sickness fighting broken relationships misunderstandings conflict war there’s a lot to pray about right there in our world today isn’t there catastrophe fear heartache he’s already done the finished work and we don’t have to fight for it in our worship we get to declare it celebrate it magnify him for it we celebrate that we are the overcoming church amen psalm 68 3 and 4 let the righteous be joyful let them exalt before God you

01:16:26 know exalting means spinning and leaping and turning let them be jubilant with joy sing to God sing praises to his name lift up a song to him who rides upon the clouds his name is the Lord exalt before him okay do we have a slide right after that is it oh yeah cool picture okay now I just recently got off a couple of weeks ago um a lot of us were involved in Voice of God and in Voice of God we have what’s called activation times we’re going to have an activation time today about this message okay we’re

01:17:10 going to bring forth life by worshiping together and magnifying the Lord now for those of you who are new here we’re going to go into a time of connecting with God and with each other and with each other in worship declaration and thanksgiving now there will be people up here in the front to pray for you kind of over in this area and this area if you haven’t been here before um if you have any needs and would like prayer or encouragement um there may be times where you see words up on the screen that say worship

01:17:52 in your own words do that worship him just tell him how great he is to you just tell him how thankful you are for what he’s done in your life and if you can’t think of anything to say just say “Thank you Lord i worship you.” I mean worship does not have to be you don’t have to be this super musician or any you know my husband I I love Gi he is the least musical person I’ve ever met in my life and he would be perfectly happy if there was no more music in the world ever he’d be perfectly happy and yet I’m

01:18:42 telling you G is one of the greatest worshippers I’ve ever met in my life because he believes the word that says “I will lift up my hands with thanksgiving and I will pray you praise you.” And he believes it and he acts on it and he does it and like I say if there’s no electric guitar playing while that’s happening he’d be perfectly happy all right so this is a time when we get to choose to set our minds on the Lord we choose to do that god’s not going to take take you over and make you worship this is not how he works okay

01:19:27 now we have a responsibility to God and to each other during this time we cannot I want you to hear this we cannot accept the mindset that what’s happening over there is not connected to us this is a very basic understanding of the body the body of Christ every person in this room creates corporate worship together did you hear me every person here is what creates our worship to God okay it’s not just the worship leader it’s not the team singers it’s not just the band okay and I want to ask you a question

01:20:20 do you believe that our prayer and worship here today today will stop death somewhere do you okay all right we need to magnify God okay in three ways first to him tell him how great he is second to each other magnify him for and over each other um Graham Cook talks about the difference between true and truth it may be that you have a disease but the truth is I am healed by his stripes it may be true that you are struggling financially but the truth is my God will supply all my needs and it may be true that something else

01:21:29 is happening in your life but God is greater than anything that Satan can throw against us amen amen so we are going to magnify him to and for each other and lastly to ourselves we are going to remind ourselves about how great God is and which gets us out of ourselves amen okay so let’s open ourselves up to worship maybe in ways that we’re not used to maybe use scriptures maybe sing maybe dance maybe prostrate ourselves pray for someone shout whisper whatever find your own new song because and during these

01:22:24 next few minutes your relationship with God is changing okay our relationship with God is changing we need to keep our focus on the Lord now I want to challenge you also as we sing the songs we’re going to sing some songs i challenge you to think about every word ask yourself do I actually believe this the words coming out of my mouth during this song or am I just singing it because it’s a song and everybody’s telling me to sing they’re telling us to sing do I actually believe the words coming out of my mouth do I actually do

01:23:02 this or maybe you need to just say “Do I want this do I want this i don’t really have this right now but I want it.” And I would say the answer to those three questions should be yes yes and yes all right I heard a yes okay now I asked the Lord a couple of days ago i said “Lord what do you want to say to your people through this message?” And he gave me a single word and it was clear it he gave me the word magnificent and so me being the OCD person that I am I had to look it up because I wanted to make see if it was

01:23:46 related to the word magnify thankfully it is okay um they both have the Latin root magnus which means great or large but listen to this definition of the word that the Lord gave us all of us gave you today for this time the definition of magnificent impressively beautiful does the beauty of God leave an impression on you an impression is like poking your thumb into a piece of clay that’s an impression and it leaves a mark it leaves a change in your makeup another definition elaborate so many parts to God an

01:24:37 elaborate building has lots you could look at it for details for a long long time that’s what God is like when we magnify him we start to see all the little details about God that are so wonderful that every time we circle around we see a new thing and extravagant another definition of magnificent that’s how he is to us he’s extravagant in his love to us so let’s be extravagant to our praise and worship to him amen so I’m going to pray heavenly Father I just pray that you would let us see every little thing

The Overcoming Church: What Are We Overcoming?

Kathy began by reminding us of humanity’s original design: Adam walked and talked with God in perfect relationship, enjoying eternal life. But sin entered the world, and with it came death. If we are called to be an overcoming church, then we must recognize that we are not just overcoming sin — we are overcoming death itself.

Kathy asked a pointed question: Don’t you want to see an end to death?
This longing for life, and for restoration, set the stage for her central idea: Praise and worship bring forth life.

Life Through Worship: Scriptural Examples

Kathy illustrated her point with powerful stories from Scripture:

  • Paul and Silas (Acts 16): Beaten and imprisoned, they chose to pray and sing hymns. Their worship led to an earthquake, the freeing of prisoners, and ultimately salvation for the jailer and his entire household.
  • Jesus and Lazarus (John 11): Jesus, moved with anger at death itself, praised God before raising Lazarus from the dead. Again, worship preceded life overcoming death.

In both cases, worship was not a response after life was restored — it caused life to break forth.

Understanding “Magnify the Lord”

Kathy offered a profound explanation of what it means to “magnify” the Lord:

  • When we magnify something through a microscope, we reveal details too small for the naked eye. Magnifying the Lord doesn’t make Him bigger — it helps us and others see how great He truly is.
  • A telescope, by contrast, helps us see distant, massive things for what they really are. Similarly, praise and worship help us perceive God’s true greatness even when it feels far away.

She challenged us to consider: Do we see God as mighty, near, and capable? Or do we see Him as small and distant?
The answer lies in our willingness to magnify Him through our praise.

The Battle for Our Focus

Kathy also addressed the common struggle of misplaced focus: how easily our problems, offenses, and disappointments can become “magnified” until they obscure everything else.

She shared a practical, vivid exercise: holding your hand far from your face versus directly in front of it. Problems, like a hand too close to the eyes, can block out the bigger picture — unless we choose to focus on God instead.

She reminded us that praise and worship are not last resorts — they are our nuclear weapons. Prayer, thanksgiving, and worship should be our first responses, especially in difficult times.

Worship as a Declaration of Life

The reality of suffering, disaster, and grief was not glossed over. Kathy pointed to examples like Habakkuk, who knew destruction was coming but still declared, “Yet I will rejoice in the Lord.” Worship isn’t ignoring pain — it’s declaring hope and life even in the midst of it.

She urged us to refuse to let Satan magnify our problems. Instead, through worship, we magnify the Lord, declare His finished work, and proclaim life over death, brokenness, and despair.

A Call to Worship

As she closed, Kathy shared a word she believed God gave her for this message: Magnificent.
She beautifully tied it back to its Latin root, magnus, meaning “great” or “large.” God is impressively beautiful, elaborate in His design, and extravagant in His love. Worship is our response to His magnificence.

Finally, Kathy led the congregation into a time of personal and corporate worship, challenging each of us to:

  • Worship God directly, personally.
  • Magnify God to others through encouragement and declaration.
  • Magnify God to ourselves, reminding our souls of His greatness.

Through magnifying the Lord in praise and worship, we truly become an overcoming church — a people who bring life wherever death tries to reign.

Summary

In this encouraging and challenging message, Kathy DeMattei teaches that praise and worship are powerful spiritual weapons that bring life and defeat death. She explains that when we magnify God — through thanksgiving, worship, and fixing our focus on Him — we align ourselves with His life-giving power. Drawing from Scripture, Kathy shows that worship changes our circumstances, brings hope in suffering, and reminds us of God’s true greatness. Rather than letting problems dominate our vision, we are called to magnify the Lord and celebrate His finished work through Christ.
